Sweeny Texas has a very rich history dating back to the Stephen F Austin original 300 colonists in 1821, plantations, the founding of the great state of Texas, the Civil War, a land developer  promoting land sales and filing the original plat of the city in 1911, etc.    Much has been done in the past to document this history such as this wonderful 1976 document:  

The problem is that this paper hard copy is tucked away in our memorabilia from grandma at home and all kinds of places around town. Very often in a generation or two, things like this are sometimes thrown out and lost forever. We started to probe the community via social media on the Face Book page "Remember in Sweeny When" by posting digital copies of documents like the one above. It became evident that most people did not know they even existed and were very interested in city history. It is now a digital age with staggering amounts of information available at our fingertips. Thus the Sweeny Texas History website was created by small group to provide Internet access to all kinds of Sweeny historical information.

We are on the hunt of additional records and welcome comments, leads, ideas and input, especially historical documents not presently shown on this site.
